McLaren ‘disappointed’ and ‘concerned’ Honda won’t deliver Canadian upgrade in time

McLaren say they're "disappointed" that engine supplier Honda won't be bringing an upgrade to the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend, with team boss Zak Brown describing it as "concerning".

McLaren have yet to receive a single performance upgrade from Honda this season despite an obvious power deficit to its rivals, with the Japanese manufacturer instead focussing on reliability improvements.

Canada had been marked as the race in which Honda would finally deliver a performance boost with its upgraded power unit, however that won't now be happening according to Brown, who is clearly unhappy about the situation.

"We were only told recently that we wouldn’t have the upgrade coming…and we don’t have a definitive timeline, which is concerning because the pain is great and we can’t sit around forever," he told Reuters.

"We were eagerly awaiting this upgrade as were our drivers and it’s a big disappointment that it’s not coming. It’s not lack of effort, but they are struggling to get it to come together."

Just last week Honda's Yusuke Hasegawa admitted the upgrade could face delays as they've yet to determine whether the performance improvement is significant enough to warrant them bringing an upgrade to Canada.
