Red-Lined ready for Friday's start

With administrative tasks the order of the day at Dakar 2024 Red-Lined CEO Terence Marsh provided a few insights into what goes into running a three-car team.

Midrand, South Africa – based Red-Lined Motorsport Adventures is overseeing a three-car team of the company’s Revo T1+ machines on Dakar 2024 for Hanwei Motorsport’s Wei Han and Li Ma, Buggyra ZM Racing’s Aliyyah Koloc with SA co-driver Riaan Greyling as well as the European team of Stefan Carmans and Arjan Van Tiel.

The armband, which only provides access to the bivouac costs €12 500. That gets the boss in, as well as the technicians, some “above average food”, and a patch of sand to set up your accommodation.

That’s just the start of the costs.

How much do you think it costs to shoe-up three race cars to cover a cumulative 23 673km? “That’ll be €25 000, thank you sir, please pay the cashier”. That’s the tyres taken care of.

Next, the 5.6lt V8 Nissan VK56VD engine in the Revo T1+ will gulp down around 4000lt of fuel to cover the 7891km route. Go do the maths if you want to work out the fuel consumption! That’s another €10000 per car.

A data logger which is required by the FIA to be run in the race cars each day to capture different performance outputs which they then use to create a ‘balance of performance’ between all the different cars….the cost to the team is €1500 per day for the 12 day event for a total cost of €18 000 per race car!!

On each stage of the Dakar, each Red-Lined Revo carry the following set of spares.

On every stage. Just in case…

Bottom foldable wishbone, complete front steering arm, complete rear trackrod, complete bottom ball joint assembly, complete top ball joint assembly, driveshaft, brake pipe, engine belt, engine oil, gearbox oil, ATF oil, brake fluid…
