Mike Conway recovered from a lap time deletion to secure pole position for Toyota at the Silverstone round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Conway needed to complete two extra laps behind the wheel of the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid after running wide at Copse, but a recovery drive ensured he and team-mate Kamui Kobayashi claimed the first pole position of 2017, and the team's first in three years.

A record breaking 1:36.793s lap by Kobayashi put the #7 car almost a second up after the first set of runs, before Conway consolidated the time to generate a 1:37.304s average.

That put the duo 0.289 seconds ahead of Kazuki Nakajima and Anthony Davidson, who both scored quicker than Conway's individual time but couldn't bridge the gap to Kobayashi.

The nearest Porsche 919 Hybrid finished 1.311 seconds off the pace on average, with Nick Tandy and defending world champion Neel Jani qualifying the #1 car.

Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley completed the LMP1 Hybrid order in their Porsche.

In LMP2, G-Drive Racing clinched its second consecutive Silverstone 6 Hours pole with Alex Lynn and Pierre Thiriet leading the way on a 1:44.387s average score.

Reigning class champion Nicolas Lapierre and Signatech Alpine team-mate Matt Rao qualified second, in front of Thomas Laurent and Ho-Pin Tung in the Jackie Chan DC Racing machine.

Andy Priaulx stole the show in GTE-Pro qualifying as Ford took its third WEC pole position some eight tenths ahead of the second-placed Ferrari.

A 1:55.858s flyer by Priaulx gave the #67 Ford GT a huge advantage before team-mate Harry Tincknell came in to record the second quickest time in consolidation.

That left the other crews to scrap over the secondary front row spot on the grid, with the Ferrari 488 duo of Sam Bird and Davide Rigon recording a 1:57.011s average to edge out the Nicki Thiim/Marco Sørensen Aston Martin.

Completing the top five in class were the Stefan Mücke/Olivier Pla Ford and the Darren Turner/Jonny Adam Aston.

In GTE-Am, Aston Martin claimed pole position with Pedro Lamy and Paul Dalla Lana qualifying 1.046 seconds ahead of the Ferrari driven by Thomas Flohr and Francesco Castellacci.
