Toyota swpet the LMP1 timesheet during the second free practice session of the FIA World Endurance Championship opener at Silverstone.

The Japanese marque out-paced Porsche comprehensively, with the two TS050 Hybrids finishing at least two seconds clear of the nearest Porsche 919 Hybrid.

Kazuki Nakajima turned in a time of 1:38.210s to lead the 90-minute Friday afternoon session, which put the #8 Toyota 1.4 seconds quicker than the fastest time from last year's 6 Hours of Silverstone weekend.

Backing up Nakajima's time in the sister TS050 was Kamui Kobayashi, who posted a 1:38.444s marker.

Having matched Toyota during the opening practice run on Friday morning, Porsche's cornering speed deficit – based on a decision to run its Le Mans-spec downforce kit at Silverstone – made the 919s markedly slower over the course of a lap during the afternoon run.

Earl Bamber set the quickest time for the German marque, but the New Zealander was still 2.290 seconds off the overall pace.

Completing the LMP1 hybrid order was the second Porsche, driven by Andre Lotterer.

Alex Lynn recorded the best LMP2 figure of the day behind the wheel of the G-Drive Racing ORECA 07-Gibson.

In the car run by French squad TDS Racing, Lynn shot to a time of 1:44.874s to head the competitive class order.

Two tenths down on Lynn was the blue Signatech Alpine A470-Gibson, which recovered from an early trip into the gravel for Nicolas Lapierre that brought out the yellow flags.

The team recovered to eclipse initial fastest lap-setter Mathias Beche in the #13 Rebellion Racing ORECA.

In GTE-Pro, Porsche beat Aston Martin to the top spot with Kevin Estre hurdling over the two AMR Vantages midway through the session.

Estre's 1:57.765s lap put a distance of 0.191 seconds between his 911 RSR and the Aston of Jonny Adam.

Marco Sørensen rounded out the class top three in the other Aston Martin.

GTE-Am practice was led by the Gulf Racing Porsche 911 RSR.
