2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button has signed with Hertz Team JOTA for the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Button will pilot the #38 Hertz Team JOTA Porsche 963 Hypercar, alongside drivers Phil Hanson and Oliver Rasmussen.

Button and his fellow drivers will compete in an expanded JOTA Hypercar lineup in 2024, after making a debut with a single 963 this year.

The #38 car will run in JOTA colours alongside the #12 entry, raced by Will Stevens, Norman Nato and Callum Ilott.

Button has already got a taste of the Porsche 963, after competing for JDC-Miller Motorsports in the 2023 IMSA season finale, the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Before that, the F1 champion joined seven-time NASCAR cup-series champion Jimmie Johnson and Le Mans Winner Mike Rockenfeller to race in the Centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans via the Garage 56 entry – which saw a modified cup-car compete in the endurance event.

Button’s previous flirtation with the FIA WEC series came in the 2018/19 super season, where he drove in the LMP1 category for SMP Racing.

“I’m thrilled to be racing with Hertz Team JOTA in the 2024 World Endurance Championship alongside my teammates Oliver Rasmussen and Phil Hanson,” Button said.

“Both already have a lot of experience in endurance racing and that is key.

“Endurance racing is about teamwork and there is no better team than Hertz Team JOTA to be taking on the big manufacturers in Hypercars.

“I’m already looking forward to the first race in Qatar but also know there’s a lot of work to be done so that we arrive prepared.”

“It’s an honour to have Jenson Button – a hugely successful driver across many racing disciplines – competing full-time in the WEC next year,” said FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien.

“With nine manufacturers in the Hypercar category next year including star names such as Jenson confirmed on the grid, everything is now in place for the WEC to have its most spectacular season yet.”

Button’s 2024 FIA WEC Campaign will kick off in Qatar on 1-2 March.

Before that, the Brit will compete in the 2024 IMSA season opener, the 24 Hours of Daytona, on 27-28 January for WTR Andretti behind the wheel of the #40 Acura ARX-06 GTP machine.
