Chip Ganassi Racing driver Kyle Larson broke a three-race streak of runner-up finishes by winning the NASCAR Cup race at Fontana.
Starting from pole position, Larson was involved in a race-long battle with Martin Truex Jr and they both took victories in the opening two stages.
This saw them battle for the lead in the final segment, with a crash for Corey LaJoie causing the caution that proved pivotal to the race result.
Truex and Denny Hamlin stayed out to move into the top two positions but Larson and the majority of the field opted to pit for fresh tyres.
On the restart, Larson put his new tyres to good use to pass Truex and Hamlin, claiming back the lead before another late caution for Ricky Stenhouse Jr took the race into overtime.
Larson sped away at the restart to claim his second ever Cup victory, the first coming at Michigan last year. It was also his first NASCAR clean sweep, having won the Xfinity race on Saturday.
Brad Keselowski bounced back from early drama to finish second, just under eight tenth further back.
He dropped down the field after a clash with Jimme Johnson on lap three, which brought out the first caution. However, a free pass and alternative strategy put him back in the running for a strong result.
Clint Bowyer came home in third place, ahead of Truex, who dropped back in the closing stages after his pit gamble. A late wave-around put Joey Logano back on the lead lap and he recovered to fifth.
Jamie McMurray and rookie Daniel Suarez were next up, with Kyle Busch losing ground late on to finish eighth. Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott rounded out the top 10.
