Reigning IMSA VP Racing Sportscar Challenge Champion Bijoy Garg will step up to LMP2 racing with United Autosports in 2024, competing as an IMSA WeatherTech Endurance Cup driver with teammates Dan Goldburg and Paul di Resta.

The 21-year-old will make his LMP2 debut at the upcoming 24 Hours of Daytona, the first out of the five races on the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Endurance Cup calendar.

IMSA’s Sportscar Challenge feeder championship consists of a combined grid of LMP3 and GT4 competitors, with Garg having driven a dominant campaign for the Jr Three outfit in a Ligier JS P320 LMP3 car.

He claimed eight race wins, six of them consecutively, in addition participating in the final three races of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech schedule for the team, in which he won the 10-hour Petit Le Mans finale.

“I’ve enjoyed so many highlights in my debut sportscar season.

“Now, I’m excited to make the step up to LMP2,” in United Autosports first full-season IMSA campaign.

“It’s going to be a challenge but I’m ready to make the most of this exciting opportunity.”

Richard Dean, United Autosports CEO, added: “I watched Bijoy this year on many occasions when I attended IMSA races.

“He had a super impressive season in the IMSA VP Racing Sportscar Challenge, winning the championship, and we were even more impressed as a team when he tested in our LMP2 car in Portimao (at the Rookie Test).

“We are very excited to have Bijoy in our IMSA team.”

After Marino Sato was uprated from an FIA Silver to Gold licence rating, the Anglo-American team were tasked on seeking out another Endurance driver for their IMSA LMP2 endeavours.

United Autosports moved their North American base of operations to Jr III’s headquarters in North Carolina, also bringing on Jr Three team principal Billy Glavin for the campaign as the team stepped away from IMSA racing at the end of 2023.

IMSA will commence the 2024 season with the Roar Before the 24 testing, five free practice sessions, qualifying, and the main 24-hour event on 27-28 January.
