Felipe Massa says he can still win the championship despite falling behind Robert Kubica in the championship standings.
The Brazilian has endured some poor performances this season, however he has managed to finish ahead of his team-mate on four occasions as well as scoring in every race bar Canada.
With a maximum of 475 points up for grabs this season, just 200 of those have already been accounted for as we approach the half way mark, mathematically allowing any driver to win the championship.
Massa is keeping his hopes alive with the introduction of Ferrari’s F10b – a heavily revised car featuring Red Bull style exhausts.
“The street circuit there is not so different in terms of its characteristics to the Montreal track and on top of that, we expect to have some more updates for the F10 to make it even more competitive with those ahead of us in the championship,” said the 28-year-old.
“Valencia has not produced very exciting races so far, but I enjoy the track, as the only time I have raced there, in 2008 – it was one of the races I missed last year after my accident – I won. It would be nice to think we could be in with a chance of doing the same again this time.”
The Ferrari driver is hoping the unpredictable nature of F1 will see him produce some good results, moving him up the table.
“With the unpredictable nature of this year’s championship anything can happen and I am sure we can be in the fight for the top places come Sunday in Spain.”
