The Verizon IndyCar Series has announced that engine partners Chevrolet and Honda have both signed multi-year extensions to their current supply deals, following in the footsteps of Dallara and Firestone.

INDYCAR announced earlier this year that chassis partner Dallara and tyre supplier Firestone had extended their commitments to the series, with today's announcement solidifying the series' links with its four major partners.

"This is a unique moment in the recent history of the Verizon IndyCar Series," said Jay Frye, INDYCAR president of competition and operations. "To have all of our major manufacturers locked in with us for the foreseeable future points to the fact that they all have bought into the vision for the Verizon IndyCar Series. It's another sign of the positive momentum we continue to build as we grow this sport into the next decade."

INDYCAR officials confirmed at a press conference in St. Petersburg ahead of Sunday's season-opener that plans for the technical specifications for next year's cars will be released before the Long Beach race in April, having debuted the initial renderings of the new-look designs in January at the North America International Auto Show.

Chiefs from both Honda and Chevrolet also said that they would welcome a third manufacturer entering IndyCar in the near future and were happy to support any efforts to join the series, with Frye outlining an aim to bring in a new OEM by 2020.
