Lance Stroll says he would ideally like to be given the chance to try some qualifying runs on the final day of Formula 1 pre-season testing, but ultimately says it's the team's decision.
Stroll, who endured a tough opening test last week after crashing three times, has mainlty been focussing on race simulations during the second week, whilst team-mate Felipe Massa as completed a number of qualifying runs on the ultrasoft tyre – which Stroll is yet to sample.
The Canadian rookie says in an ideal world he will be given the chance to push the car on Friday.
"I don’t know yet exactly what we’re doing tomorrow, I have to confirm what our plan is," he said.
"Sure I want to try it. I haven’t tried the ultrasoft yet, that’s the only compound left and I can learn from [it]. So I think for sure it would be good to get some qualy type runs under my belt and get a feeling for the car with maximum grip, but we’ll see what we’re doing [tomorrow] and I’ll do whatever the team tells me to do."
Stroll insists he's confident behind the wheel of the FW40 despite his costly spins last week.
"I wouldn’t call them troubles [last week], there were a lot of positives from last week and I don’t think people really see it because of the couple of issues that happened. But I felt really confident in the car last week and this week I feel confident.
"I’m a racing driver and I’m pushing the car, getting a feel for the limits of the car. What happened last week, that’s just the way it is and it’s happened. It’s behind me now.
"I’m still getting to grips with it and tomorrow’s another big day – looking forward to learning some more tomorrow and bringing that to Melbourne."
