Kevin Magnussen not worried by early Haas struggles in Barcelona

Kevin Magnussen says he is not concerned despite suffering a handful of setbacks during his first public test with Haas as Formula 1's pre-season running got underway in Barcelona.

Having signed from Renault for 2017, Magnussen received the first extended run in the Haas VF-17 car at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Monday, finishing the day fourth on the final timesheets, 1.1 seconds off the fastest time set by Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton.

Magnussen was only able to rack up 51 laps, having suffered a spin that caused him to hit the wall as well as other technical issues that limited his running, but the Dane was not concerned.

"We were planning to have more laps but also expecting to have some issues," Magnussen said.

"So I think all in all, we did have some issues with sensors and stuff that stopped us from running today but it isn’t worrying. It's stuff we’ll fix.

"Except for those little things the car was working well. We could get tests done and data on a few things that we tried. It will be interesting to continue work and do some more set up and performance work rather than checks.

"I got some laps I could push the car a bit, not at maximum mode at all but it feels nice already and it’s the fastest lap time I’ve ever done in Barcelona, so a good experience!"

Of his crash, Magnussen said: "I had a spin because I locked the rear tyres quite aggressively. And yeah, I spun."

Magnussen will return to the track on Tuesday in Barcelona before handing over to Haas teammate Romain Grosjean for the remaining two days of the first test.
