Porsche carries out first test with 2017-spec 919 Hybrid

Porsche has completed the first test of its new 919 Hybrid LMP1 challenger.

All six factory drivers collectively registered just under 4500 miles over five days at Motorland Aragon in Spain (2016 car pictured).

Chief Engineer Stephen Mitas said that the test had to be extended by two days due to "fog at night", although no major issues with the car were reported.

Porsche ran elements of its 2017-spec 919 Hybrid at Aragon last December, followed by a Michelin tyre development test at Valencia in early February which amassed 1700 miles.

The recent five-day run at Aragon marked the first laps for the full 2017 package.

"Conditions in general were good – dry and sunny during the days, high humidity and fog during the evenings," said Team Principal Andreas Seidl.

"The main focus was the approval of the 2017 car spec for the Silverstone and Spa WEC rounds – reliability, set-up and tyre testing."

"[It was] a very positive test, with full 2017 spec on track for the first time preparing for the 6 Hours of Silverstone. [There is] still some homework left for Le Mans."

The new car will be revealed on March 31st at the official WEC Prologue event held at Monza.

Neel Jani, Andre Lotterer and Nick Tandy will drive the #1 919 Hybrid, alongside Earl Bamber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard in the #2 machine, as Porsche aims to defend both its drivers' and manufacturers' titles in 2017.
