Thierry Neuville opened up a healthy lead during the second day of World Rally Championship's Rally Sweden to retake the lead on Friday evening, putting him 28.1 seconds clear of the chasing pack.
The Hyundai driver had been in the lead during the early morning stages, but lost out to Jari-Matti Latvala on the final morning stage after hitting an object he described as "hard", losing seven seconds in the process.
However Neuville didn't stay in second for long as he was quickest in SS5 in the afternoon and then further extended his advantage on the following stages, despite the driver door on his Hyundai swinging open.
Latvala meanwhile dropped back as he struggled for pace in his Toyota Yaris and made a couple of small errors, but managed to stay second come the end of running.
M-Sport's Ott Tänak finished third overall, 21.6s down on Latvala in his Ford Fiesta and 49.7s down on Neuville's lead. The Estonian was forced to change his gearbox during a service after his car kept jumping into neutral during down-shifts, slowing his progress.
Kris Meeke was fourth in his Citroën, but tentatively sat third before struggling on the Torsby test, complaining about his tyres and a lack of snow studs.
Sébastien Ogier, running first on the road, was never really in contention throughout, sitting fifth for the majority of the days running, but a quick SS7 time closed the gap to Meeke to just 3.9s and a further 2.1s down on third.
Hayden Paddon and Dani Sordo were sixth and seventh, while Craig Breen sits eighth after he put his Citroën in a snow bank.
Elfyn Evans was ninth, partly thanks to a puncture, ahead of Mads Østberg, who lost his rear-wing over a high-speed crest.
Latvala's Toyota team-mate, Juho Hanninen, retired after he struck a tree – the second time in as many events.
