Formula E has announced it will return to the Berlin Tempelhof Airport for this season’s 2017 Berlin ePrix.
The event, scheduled to take place on the June 10, will use a revised version of the circuit raced on during the inaugural Berlin ePrix in 2015.
The all-electric series has had to revert to Tempelhof Airport after the Berlin city council ruled that it couldn't return to last year's venue, a street circuit in the Alexanderplatz area, following a vote on the matter.
Therefore Formula E’s return to the original ePrix venue has now been confirmed.
A 17-turn, 1.5-mile circuit built on the apron section of the disused Tempelhof Airport was used in 2015 and details on the revised 2017 layout will be revealed shortly.
"Motorsport with electric motors is an advertisement for innovative technologies and sustainable urban mobility," said Berlin mayor Michael Müller.
"Electromobility is the key to environmentally friendly transport in the cities of the 21st century, including Berlin.
"I am therefore delighted that Formula E continues to take place here. The event thrills motorsport fans and proves – in a spectacular way, in front of a special backdrop – the performance of this technology to a wide audience."
The Berlin ePrix is the seventh round of the 2016/2017 Formula E season. Sebastien Buemi leads the championship after two events, having won in both Hong Kong and Marrakesh.
