McLaren-Honda has confirmed that its fuel and lubricants supplier this season will be BP and its oil brand Castrol, ending its long-standing relationship with ExxonMobil.
McLaren had developed a partnership with ExxonMobil that stretched back over two decades, but the company moved to link up with rivals Red Bull ahead of the 2017 campaign.
McLaren will now utilise equipment from BP/Castrol for the upcoming season, joining Renault in using products from the company, which is returning to Formula 1 this year.
“This agreement between McLaren, BP and Castrol is between brands who both share a long-standing and well-recognised passion for innovation in all we do,” said McLaren Technology Group COO Jonathan Neale.
“Our McLaren-Honda team provides a global platform for Castrol to supply bespoke advanced lubricant technology.”
A McLaren statement added that ‘BP is supplying a range of performance lubricants for Honda’s Internal Combustion Engine (ICE).
‘The team will also benefit from Castrol’s high-performance lubricants and greases that will be used in the team’s Mazak-powered machine shop and dynamic chassis rig.’
