Ferrari isn't ruling out the possibility of one day entering Formula E, but chairman Sergio Marchionne admits the current arrangement isn't an attractive proposal for the Italian manufacturer.
The all-electric series has already attracted a number of large manufacturers including Renault, Audi, BMW and Jaguar, whilst Mercedes has an option to join in 2018.
However in its current format, the series isn't an option for Ferrari according to Marchionne.
"The Formula E arrangement now, as much as I think it's a valiant effort to make technology relevant on the track, I think it's substantially short of what I would expect to have," he said in a recent investor conference call.
"The fact you have to change cars during a race is unhelpful simply because of the duration of the battery charges," he added – although that is set to change from season five, when McLaren aims to supply a battery system capable of completing an entire race distance.
Marchionne admitted the series is something Ferrari will continue to monitor and he isn't ruling out an entry further down the line.
"I think we need to find a better way of expressing an interest in electrification than through Formula E.
"Having said this, we continue to look at it, and I think we have not given up on the idea of potentially one day entering – if the parameters are such that Ferrari can make a difference. If it cannot make a difference, then it should not take part."
