AJ Foyt Racing confirms switch to Chevrolet power

The AJ Foyt Racing team has announced it is switching to Chevrolet power and aero kits for the 2017 IndyCar season.

A move from Honda to Chevrolet engines has been rumoured for some time, but the news has finally become official after the team’s announcement on Tuesday.

It marks the first time since 2005 that Foyt's team has used Chevrolet power, having run Honda engines for 11 consecutive seasons.

Chevrolet returned to IndyCar as an engine supplier in 2012. Foyt's switch had been expected in the aftermath of Ganassi’s change from Chevrolet to Honda for 2017.

Foyt will field Conor Daly and Carlos Muñoz this season; both drove with Honda engines in 2016, so will get their first taste of Chevrolet’s power unit at the private Sebring test later this month.

"I am looking forward to what will be a new chapter for us that involves returning to an old friend in Chevrolet," Larry Foyt, team president, said.

"There are a lot of changes happening within our team this off-season and I won’t minimize the challenges, but I see a lot of potential with our plan."

Team owner, the legendary racing driver and four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt, added: "I’m glad to be back with Chevy. I’ve had a lot of success with them in the past and I’m looking forward to more success in the future."
