Chevrolet has revealed that it will cease production of the SS model at the end of 2017, meaning it will have a new NASCAR racing machine in 2018.
Toyota unveiled a new Camry for the 2017 NASCAR season on Monday, to reflect the new road-going vehicle hitting showrooms later in the year.
Chevrolet will do the same thing for the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series campaign, although no timetable or details were revealed.
“It was already known that the Chevrolet SS was going to be discontinued in 2017," Campbell is quoted saying by the NASCAR website, in a statement provided by Team Chevy.
“That information was originally announced last summer. As you know, we don't talk about future projects. We'll make any announcement regarding our next Cup entry at the appropriate time.”
The SS succeeded the Impala when it arrived in the top-tier NASCAR series in 2013.
