Toyota has unveiled the new Camry that will be raced by teams in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series in 2017.

It was revealed on Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, showing off a new look for the Camry.

The redesign by Toyota is to reflect the new Camry that will arrive on showrooms in the USA later in the year.

Since the Japanese manufacturer last made significant changes to its car, it has won one championship, 30 races and had 10 Chase appearances in total.

In 2016 teams running Toyota’s NASCAR machines took 16 victories in total, the most in a season since the manufacturer’s debut in the series in 2007.

Toyota provides support to Joe Gibbs Racing, Furniture Row Racing and BK Racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup as well as teams in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck championships.

"As soon as they unveiled the drawings (of the 2018 car) to us, we looked and said, ‘This is such a radical design, that we really need to figure out a way to get it on the racetrack as soon as possible,’" said Ed Laukes, vice president of integrated marketing for Toyota Motor Sales.

"Rather than wait until the year after it went on sale."
