Mark Webber is expecting a "pretty emotional" race in Bahrain as it will signify not only the end of his World Endurance Championship career, but also his time in top-tier motorsport.

The 40-year-old retired from Formula 1 at the end of the 2013 season having finished a best third in his final year before switching to WEC with Porsche.

The Australian has enjoyed a successful stint in WEC, winning the title in his second year, but has now called time on his racing career.

"Bahrain is obviously not a normal race for me. It will be pretty emotional," he is quoted as saying by Australia's Daily Telegraph. "To arrive there knowing it is the last time I will compete seriously will be a big moment.

"Of course we would love to go out with a victory," he added. "But irrespective of the result, I think it would be nice for me to have a smooth day and look back on a very, very long career of which I’m, of course, very proud."

Webber says he's looking forward to getting out of the routine and hanging up his racing boots for the final time.

"I thought about it a few times. I will walk away from the car just one more time, take the helmet and balaclava off and the ear plugs out, doing all these things for one last time.

"That will be very different, but I’m looking forward to not having to do this in the future."
