Porsche takes WEC manufacturer title with 6 Hours of Shanghai victory

Porsche wrapped up its second consecutive FIA WEC Manufacturers' Championship during the 6 Hours of Shanghai on Sunday with a fourth season victory for the #1 car of Brendon Hartley, Mark Webber and Timo Bernhard.

The trio dominated the race to take the win by just under a minute, whilst a strong showing for Toyota kept the Drivers' Championship alive until the final round of the season in Bahrain later this month.

The #6 Toyota of Kamui Kobyashi, Mike Conway and Stephane Sarrazin finished second, giving them an outside shot of taking the title in a fortnight, though it would require a victory and a poor showing for the #2 car.

The victory could have gone Toyota's way had it not been for two-late unscheduled pit stops for slow punctures.

The #5 Toyota completed the podium and kept the #2 Porsche at bay with ease, finishing more than 30 seconds up the road.

Audi suffered a nightmare race, having stopped from second, a fuel-rig issue dropped the #8 car of Lucas Di Grassi, Loic Duval and Oliver Jarvis down the order to eventually finish fifth, several laps ahead of the sister car which suffered contact and had to undergo lengthy repairs.

The ByKolles team claimed its first LMP1 Privateer class win in more than a year, after its chief rival, the #13 Rebellion R-One, hit problems during the race.

Signatech Alpine took the LMP2 title, needing just a handful of points to claim the crown, which it managed with fourth place for the #36 car of Nicolas Lapierre, Gustavo Menezes and Stephane Richelmi.

The Oreca 05 of Will Stevens, Roman Rusinov and Alex Brundle claimed the LMP2 win.

The GTE class was dominated by Ford with the two GT's finishing first and second, led by the #67 car of Harry Tincknell and Andy Priaulx.
