Honda preparing to supply multiple teams in 2018 – Yusuke Hasegawa

Honda are gearing up to supply multiple Formula 1 teams with power units in 2018, but as of yet, they don't have a particular team in mind to join existing partner McLaren.

The Japanese manufacturer recently expanded its Milton Keynes base, giving it the capacity to supply more than one team, but partner McLaren have a veto on any deals for three years, meaning they can block any supply deals until the end of the 2017 season.

Although they haven't yet been approached by a customer, it's thought Sauber are looking to switch from long-time partner Ferrari, with Sauber running year-old engines next year in its final year of its Ferrari contract.

"We are preparing to provide multiple teams from 2018, however there is no concrete plan at the moment," Yusuke Hasegawa told F1i when asked about Sauber.

"Should we be approached by any team, we will look into matters seriously and decide."

Honda could however be forced to supply a customer team even if it doesn't want to, after new supply regulations were introduced by the FIA this year, which give the governing body the power to enforce supply following the Red Bull debacle late-last year.
