The FIA has handed Honda a small token boost, returning one of the two it spent on its Malaysian Grand Prix power unit upgrade, meaning the Japanese manufacturer now has two tokens remaining.
Honda introduced a new lightweight engine block and exhaust – which Fernando Alonso only used during practice in Sepang, but will race this weekend in Suzuka – which it applied to the FIA to spend two of its three remaining tokens.
However the FIA has now deemed the new engine block a reliability improvement, rather than a performance upgrade.
Honda resubmitted its paperwork this weekend and the FIA has confirmed new tokens spends, with Ferrari having spent all 32, Honda 30 (two remaining), Mercedes 26 (six remaining) and Renault 14, (18 remaining).
Honda doesn't however have any plans to spend its two remaining tokens this season as it has now switched its focus to 2017, when the token system is abolished.
