Lewis Hamilton demands answers for ‘unacceptable’ reliability

Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes must provide some answers as to why yet another of his engines has failed on him, costing him what looked like a guaranteed victory in Malaysia.

The Briton was leading the race by a comfortable margin before flames licked from the exhaust, forcing him to pull off circuit and retire from the race, handing victory to Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, but more importantly a bigger championship lead to team-mate Nico Rosberg.

Speaking to reporters after the race, Hamilton described the reliability as "unacceptable" and "not right".

"I just can't believe that it's only been my engines that have been blowing… something's not right," he said.

"My question is to Mercedes. Someone need to give me some answers because this is not acceptable."

Hamilton revealed that his engine was a fresh unit installed this weekend: "It's a brand new engine. I've done one race with it. I did P3 with it and qualifying, it's a brand new engine out of the new three that I had.

"I've just got to move on. The guys did a fantastic job this weekend, we did everything we could. I did everything I could. I just can't believe that there's eight Mercedes cars and only my engines that have been going this year. Something just doesn't feel right. There's nothing I can do about it."
