Mercedes and Ferrari continued Pirelli’s 2017 tyre development programme, with running at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Paul Ricard.

Next season Pirelli’s tyres will increase in width by 60mm at the front, from 245 to 305mm, and by 80mm at the rear, from 325 to 405mm.

Mercedes and Ferrari used modified versions of their 2015 Formula 1 cars to complete the testing for Pirelli.

Sebastian Vettel and Esteban Gutierrez first tried out the 2017-size tyres last month with Ferrari at Fiorano, before Sebastien Buemi tested them for Red Bull at Mugello.

On Tuesday, Mercedes started a three-day test at the Paul Ricard circuit in France with Pascal Wehrlein at the wheel.

Meanwhile in Barcelona Ferrari kicked off a two-day test with Kimi Raikkonen driving the car. Both teams were using slick tyres for the tests.

Wehrlein will drive on all three days for Mercedes, while Vettel will take over running for Ferrari in Spain on Wednesday.

134 laps were completed by Mercedes, with Ferrari managing 111 laps during the test day in Barcelona.
