ART Grand Prix’s Nyck de Vries stormed to his maiden victory in the GP3 series in race two at Monza, but his team-mate and championship leader Charles Leclerc failed to finish.

Antonio Fuoco lined up on pole position and led the way in the early stages, with Alexander Albon getting ahead of fellow ART GP driver de Vries at the start.

Albon passed Fuoco before the safety car was deployed, after Leclerc was hit off by team-mate Nirei Fukuzumi on the run to the first Lesmo.

Fukuzumi moved across on Leclerc after the second chicane, with both then going off into the gravel at the new corner. Tatiana Calderon also got caught up in the incident.

On the restart de Vries followed Albon passed Fuoco and then moved ahead of his team-mate soon after, before establishing a small lead.

He went on to win his first GP3 race and make up for a mixed second race for ART GP, with Albon holding off Fuoco to finish second and the Trident driver rounding out the podium.

Race one winner Jake Dennis just held off his Arden team-mate Jack Aitken to finish fourth and fifth, ahead of Arjun Maini and Alex Palou.

Artur Janosz rounded out the top eight, with Ralph Boschung and Jake Hughes next up – the race one podium finisher had a slow start and had to recover ground after getting caught up in a first lap incident.

Leclerc’s lead in the standings has now been cut to 24 points over Fuoco, after his incident with Fukuzumi. However, ART GP did secure the teams’ title on Saturday.
