Kevin Magnussen doubts Halo will ever be introduced to Formula 1

Kevin Magnussen says he's certain that Formula 1 won't introduce the Halo in 2018 or even beyond that, believing something better should and will come along following the decision to delay its introduction.

The head protection device, which became the preferred solution over Red Bull's Aeroscreen, was set to be introduced next year. However following a Strategy Group vote earlier this year, it was proposed to delay it until 2018 to allow for further development.

Renault driver Magnussen doesn't however believe it will ever be introduced and made it clear he isn't a fan, choosing not to run it if it were optional.

"If I could choose, I'm not going to run it," he said on Friday, despite having yet trialled the device.

"I don't think it will come in," he added. "I just think now they have delayed it, they will come up with something better.

"The halo isn't going to go on. If it was, then it would come on next year. They have obviously seen they can come up with something better and they need more time to do it."

Meanwhile, three drivers did trial it during first practice at Monza. Whilst Jenson Button saw no issue other than the central support becoming a slight distraction, Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen raised some concerns over the increased extraction time.

"It takes a good five seconds more than without the halo, so it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable that I need more time to get out of the car," said the Force India driver.

"There is more work to be done in that area to try and get us drivers out of the car as quick as possible.

"If you are in a critical situation, five seconds can be a lot."
