Vettel denies any favouritism within Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel has denied any suggestions that he is the favourite driver within the Red Bull team.

“What we have been discussing internally is neither driver, Mark nor me, is favoured in any way,” said Vettel. “We go out and try to find out who is the better one, like it should be.”

The German spoke to the BBC’s Lee McKenzie about the incident which saw him retire from the Turkish GP after a move on his team-mate ended in the worst possible way.

Red Bull bosses defended Vettel, hinting that Webber was to blame, whilst the media and fans thought the opposite. In a final statement, the team brushed off any blame at all and suggested it was a racing incident.

Vettel described the coming together with Webber to McKenzie, implying he had done nothing wrong as he was the lead driver at the time.

“It all happened fairly quick,” Vettel explained. “I got a very good run out of corner leading on to back straight, got a good tow. Then I was going on the inside.

“I had already passed Mark and then tried to come slowly back to the right.

“At that time I was the leading car and then usually the leader dictates when to go. We made contact and that was the end of the race for me.”
