Renault junior driver Jack Aitken controlled the second GP3 race of the Spa-Francorchamps to claim his maiden victory in the F1 feeder series.

The Arden racer had to deal with several safety car periods for on-track incidents, after an eventful race two in Belgium.

He started from fourth on the grid but moved up to third at the first corner, before passing Santino Ferrucci’s DAMS on the Kemmel Straight.

Aitken followed pole-man Matevos Isaakyan but soon moved ahead and into the lead on the next lap on the run to Les Combes.

Incidents for Konstantin Tereschenko, contact between Matt Parry and Jake Hughes and a collision for Nirei Fukuzumi and Kevin Joerg brought out safety cars but Aitken kept his cool and retained the lead.

He went on to finish well clear of Antonio Fuoco and Ferrucci, who completed the podium. Isaakyan was fourth, ahead of Jake Dennis and championship leader Charles Leclerc.

Steijn Schothorst and Nyck de Vries completed the points, with Artur Janosz and Alex Albon just missing out in ninth and 10th.

Albon survived a considerable hit with Arjun Maini at the final chicane to finish 10th, the contact sending his car into the air.
