Nico Rosberg will start the Belgian Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday after beating Red Bull's Max Verstappen by just over a tenth of a second.

The Mercedes driver took pole with his first flyer and failed to better the time, a 1m46.744, on his second attempt.

Verstappen couldn't improve either, but remained in second to become Formula 1's youngest ever front-row starter.

His Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo had third in the bag on his first run, but the improving Ferraris forced him down to fifth come the checkered flag.

Kimi Raikkonen took third ahead of Sebastian Vettel in fourth, with the pair split by two-tenths.

Force India start sixth and seventh with Sergio Perez leading Nico Hulkenberg, whilst the Williams cars of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa were split by the McLaren of Jenson Button.

Romain Grosjean was the quickest of the Q2 drop-outs, finishing P11 whilst team-mate Esteban Gutierrez finished P13, but will start P18 having incurred a grid penalty during final practice.

Pascal Wehrlein impressed to make Q2, but finished slowest during the second session, three-tenths down on Carlos Sainz's Toro Rosso.

Lewis Hamilton completed four laps just to put in a time within 107 per cent to guarantee his start on Sunday. The Briton will serve a 55-place penalty, dropping him to last.

Fernando Alonso didn't even complete one lap as his McLaren ground to a halt at Raidillon. The Spaniard will start P21, one place higher than he qualified despite a 35-place grid penalty.
