Antonio Fuoco takes the initiative to win Germany feature race

Trident driver Antonio Fuoco won Saturday's GP3 series feature race after capitalising on a tardy restart for series leader Alexander Albon, as the race's one and only Virtual Safety Car ended.

Fuoco's second win of the season – and sixth podium – was largely decided when a collision between Steijn Schothorst and Ralph Boschung caused the latter to slow on track. Boschung's Koiranen GP team mate Matevos Isaakysan appeared not to see him, and hit the back of his car, effectively eliminating both drivers from the race.

On the restart, the Virtual Safety Car ended just as the top five exited the final corner, and Fuoco caught Albon and ART team mate Nyck de Vries napping, scorching past into the lead.

Fuoco sauntered off into the distance, but Albon went wide at the first corner, dropping down to fifth. That left Nyck de Vries in second, with Matt Parry third. The pair collided at the hairpin, letting Leclerc through into second.

As the final lap began, Ferrari development driver Leclerd looked set to finish second, but he made exactly the same mistake as Albon earlier in the race, going well wide of turn 1, handing second place to de Vries.

Fuoco won the race from de Vries, with Matt Parry completing the podium after getting past Albon (P4) and the ailing Leclerc (P5) on the final lap.

Sixth was Jack Aitken, then Arjun Maini, reverse-grid pole winner Jake Hughes, Santino Ferrucci in ninth, and Tatiana Calderon took the final point; her first in the series; one which makes her only the second female race to score in the series after Alice Powell in 2012.
