Hamilton says race start was ‘everything’ at Hungarian GP

Lewis Hamilton has stressed the importance of his race start at the Hungarian Grand Prix, after taking his fifth victory at the Hungaroring.

The British driver started from second place on the grid but had a strong launch from the line, drawing level with his team-mate and polesitter Nico Rosberg on the run to Turn 1.

With the inside line, Hamilton was able to move into the lead. He remained in control of the race, despite Rosberg getting close on several occasions, and won his fifth race of the 2016 season by two seconds.

“Firstly a big thank you to all the fans here, they’ve been amazing this weekend,” he said after the Hungarian GP.

“With the race, the start was everything. I got a good start. I had one of Red Bulls on inside of me, so I was pressured quite a lot into Turn 1.

“The team did a fantastic job with strategy and preparing the car as always. The guys back in the factory continuing to push flat out, so a huge thank you to them. This is a great result for us as a team. What a day.”

Hamilton had to contend with traffic and lapped cars throughout the race, which cost him time on several occasions.

The three-time champion described the traffic as “difficult to navigate” through the Hungarian Grand Prix.
