Daniel Ricciardo likes that Austria kerbs punish drivers for running wide

Daniel Ricciardo backs the new kerbs which line the Austrian Grand Prix circuit, despite them causing several suspension failures including that of sister team driver Daniil Kvyat, which pitched the Toro Rosso driver into the tyre barrier.

Ricciardo supports the fact that the kerbs punish those drivers that use too much of the track, and says he'll avoid them by treating them like the walls that line circuits like Monaco and Baku.

"I am honestly treating it like a wall,” he said on Saturday. "I know that if I hit it I am likely to have a damaged car. It is not like a bullying scenario, I am not laughing at them, at Daniil or anyone that crashed, not at all. But for me I like that it is actually black and white."

Although Ricciardo understands the damage caused is quite severe and a high price to pay for simply running wide, he says it's ultimately no different to street circuits which punish drivers for small mistakes.

"So many modern circuits, us drivers complain that you can run off and not pay a price, so this weekend we are paying a price. Sure the damage to the cars is quite severe, but it is the same if you hit a wall at a street circuit. In Baku I tore apart all the rear of my car."
