Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne has called on Kimi Raikkonen to up his game if he's to secure a new contract with the Italian outfit next season.

Raikkonen's three-year deal ended last season but the team chose to offer him a new one-year deal for 2016, reviewed yearly. Therefore his future at the team isn't currently secure.

Although Ferrari are keen to keep stability and please lead driver Sebastian Vettel, a run of poor performances has cast a shadow over Raikkonen's future and Marchionne says it's up to the Finn to prove he's deserving of the seat.

"It is up to him," Marchionne told Gazzetta dello Sport. "Kimi’s time with Ferrari will depend on his performance.

"He has to show he deserves to stay here, otherwise I think he won’t want to continue here as well."

When asked about the teams performance and whether they are addressing their weaknesses by hiring outside help, Marchionne said: "We are doing that.

"We just signed Jock Clear [from Mercedes]. There are people that are helping out in those areas that we are struggling. Results don’t happen overnight, and we need time to bring about tangible results that will come about in 2017."
