MotoGP will ban the use of aerodynamic winglets from the 2017 season, the Grand Prix Commission confirmed this week.
The use of the small wings, often used to control wheelie's under acceleration and help with cornering, have become increasingly common and more intricate with each passing race.
Ducati pioneered them leading to other manufacturers to complain, before swiftly copying them.
A statement from the Grand Prix Commission, which is comprised of series promoter Dorna chairman Carmelo Ezpeleta, Ignacio Verneda (FIM CEO), Herve Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA), confirmed they would remain legal for the remainder of the 2016 season.
"The Commission unanimously agreed that, with effect from the 2017, the use of aerodynamic wings in the MotoGP class will be banned," it read.
"The actual regulation will replicate those for the Moto3 and Moto2 classes where the use of wings is already prohibited.
"Wings that comply with current technical regulations may continue to be used for the remainder of the 2016 season."
