Kimi Raikkonen would like to remain with Ferrari next season, amid rumours replacements are being lined up should he fail to deliver better results in the coming races.
Although Raikkonen sits higher than team-mate Sebastian Vettel in the drivers' standings – by just a single point – Vettel has experienced far more technical failures this season, as well as crashes outside of his control.
Last year Ferrari chose to delay contract talks until after the summer break, before finally confirming a single year extension for the Finnish driver. Raikkonen is however keen to stay on and help the team achieve its goals.
“I don’t know anything more," he said when asked about his future. "You guys seem to know a lot every week, this and that.
"It’s not my decision in the end. I always said I’m happy to be here, I hope I will be here helping Ferrari to get where we want to get as a team.
"What happens in the future, we’ll see," he added.
Raikkonen remains confident Ferrari are in a stronger position than their results might show, insisting the car is better than last years.
"We’re definitely stronger in the car and other areas than we were last year," he said. "Maybe the results haven’t showed it exactly. It hasn’t been the easiest start for us as a team, but we keep working and it will pay off."
