Scott McLaughlin, Team Penske Indycar driver and former Australian Supercars champion, has announced a return to Tower Motorsports for the IMSA Petit Le Mans finale on 14 October.

He last drove in a #8 Tower Motorsports Oreca 07-Gibson LMP2 at the 12 Hours of Sebring, where he claimed the class victory with teammates John Farano and Kyffin Simpson.

The Petit Le Mans event will be the final race on the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech schedule, with a 10-hour race with all five classes at Road Atlanta.

McLaughlin said: “I’m excited to get to Road Atlanta and get to work with the Tower Motorsports crew.

“Petit is one of those bucket list events that I’ve had my eye on for many years, and it’s exciting to get to check this off.

“I’ve really enjoyed competing in the LMP2 class with this team and I’m confident we can build on our success from earlier this year.”

He made his IMSA debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona along with Penske Indycar teammate Josef Newgarden – who will drive a Porsche 963 LMDh at Petit Le Mans – to claim fifth place in LMP2, and a class victory at Sebring.

Farano suffered an accident at Laguna Seca in May, with former GTE-Am Le Mans winner Salih Yoluc replacing him at the 6 Hours of the Glen, the third round on the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup sub-calendar.

At the IMSA Sportscar Weekend at Road America, Rodrigo Sales took his place with Simpson at the 2-hour and 40-minute sprint race.

The Kiwi driver will partner once again with Simpson in a predominantly blue Oreca livery, as their third (bronze-mandated) driver is not yet confirmed.
