Maverick Vianles topped the third practice session for the Catalan Grand Prix – the first session to take place on the Formula 1 layout following Luis Salom's fatal accident on Friday.
With the change to the slightly shorter circuit coming at late notice, third practice was extended to give riders a chance to familiarise themselves with the modified final sector, which includes a chicane on the approach to Turn 12.
Vinales was quickest come the checkered flag, narrowly beating Marc Marquez by just over a tenth of a second, whilst the second Repsol Honda of Dani Pedrosa was third, a further tenth off.
Marquez suffered a fall at Turn 2 during the session, forcing him to sprint back to his garage to jump on the spare bike.
Valentino Rossi looked as though he'd struggle to secure a Q2 place as he languished in the bottom half of the field. However a late flyer put him fourth ahead of Pol Espargaro and Jorge Lorenzo, half a second off the pace.
Britain's Scott Redding was seventh, with Danilo Petrucci, Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Iannone completing the top ten.
