MotoGP will switch to the Formula 1 layout of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the remainder of the Catalan Grand Prix weekend, following the death of Moto2 rider Luis Salom on Friday.
The Spaniard succumbed to injuries he sustained during a practice crash at Turn 12 – a high-speed corner which hasn't been used by Formula 1 drivers since 2007, as the run-off doesn't feature a gravel trap to slow cars or bikes down.
The F1 layout bypasses this corner thanks to the addition of a chicane, which was added to slow the cars down.
MotoGP and its feature races will now use this layout after riders expressed concern over the incident.
The changes shorten the lap length by almost 1,000 metres, and riders will be given an extended hour of practice on Saturday morning to familiarise themselves with the new layout.
