Lucas di Grassi has the skill to win the Formula E title without the ABT Schaeffler team employing team orders according to Daniel Abt, after he was ordered to move aside for the Brazilian.
The pair finished second and third in Berlin, but during the final few laps of the race, the team asked Abt to let Di Grassi – who is fighting Sebastian Buemi for the championship – though to take second, an order Abt seemed to ignore.
The German insists he tried to let his team-mate past, but he wasn't close enough, whilst insisting Di Grassi can win without the team interfering.
"For me it was always clear that if we were in a situation where Lucas is behind me, that I get that call, then yeah [I would let him past]," he said after the race.
"I wanted to let him past with two laps to go. I slowed down on the back straight and waved, but he was a bit far and I think he was not sure if he could do it. And then the lap after I was not keen to do it again because Prost was not so far away from him, and imagine me losing a podium on the last corner. That would have been even more ridiculous.
"It is what it is. I think Lucas has the tools he needs to win it by himself," he added. "He’s an amazing racing driver. He again managed to finish on the podium, I don’t know how he always does it.
"In London he’s going to come back and he’s going to win it."
