Porsche locks out front row for WEC 6 Hours of Spa

Porsche returned to the front row of the FIA World Endurance Championship grid, securing a one-two in qualifying for the 6 Hours of Spa.

Audi broke the team’s run of qualifying success at the Silverstone season opener, but Porsche backed up its 1-2 finish in FP3 to take first and second for Saturday’s race in Belgium.

Running with a low downforce aero package, the No.1 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard set the best two-lap average with a 1:55.793. The No.2 car of Marc Lieb and Neel Jani was seven tenths further back.

The No.6 Toyota finished third, with the No.8 Audi next up after hitting traffic. The No.5 Toyota and No.7 Audi followed, with the positions from third to sixth split by just three tenths of a second.

In LMP2, the No.26 G-Drive Racing car of Roman Rusinov and Rene Rast secured pole position in the class, ahead of the No.36 Signatech Alpine machine. Manor’s two cars were third and fifth, split by the No.38 Gibson car.

The No.71 Ferrari of Sam Bird and Davide Rigon took pole in GTE-Pro, with the sister No.51 car and the No.97 Aston Martin next up, just ahead of the two Ford GTs. In GTE-Am, Aston Martin’s No.98 car will line up first in class, ahead of the No.83 Ferrari and No.88 Abu Dhabi Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR.
