F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, has admitted that he is in talks over the future of the Turkish Grand-Prix.
Despite a record of poor attendance, the 79-year old has admitted that he is looking to extend the contract with the Istanbul Park circuit for a further 10 years.
“We’ll be here again next year,” Ecclestone said at the Istanbul Park Circuit.
The grandstands on Friday held just a spattering of spectators however Ecclestone insists that ticket sales have grown year-on-year and this season is no exception.
“It’s not good, but it takes a long time to build a fan base in a country without a history of F1,” Ecclestone said. “Let’s wait till Saturday or Sunday. It’ll be better than last year.”
With cost-cutting being the top of the agenda for F1, can Bernie really warrant extending the contract of a race that is losing over $2million a year on average?
