Three-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel would have a hard time adapting to Formula E should they ever switch series, according to series leader Lucas di Grassi.
Despite the seven titles between them and the opinion that they are amongst the best in F1 – even Di Grassi admits they are the most talented drivers of their generattion – he believes they would struggle in Formula E.
"They would have a hard time coming to Formula E," he told CNN ahead of the Paris ePrix.
"They are fantastic drivers, they are the most talented drivers of our generation and maybe, I would say, almost our lifetime, but if they come to Formula E they would find it hard.
"They will have to learn the tracks, because all the tracks are brand-new, they are all city tracks, you cannot practice on the tracks."
"I wouldn’t say that they won’t succeed, but it’s so different and it’s so difficult to drive," he later added when discussing his comments with the media.
"Formula E is so different to anything else. You see a lot of very good drivers who did not succeed in Formula E. You can see here in this line-up sitting here together and the drivers out on track, they are extremely good."
Di Grassi is keen to see how they would do and would consider inviting them to take part in an event.
"I think I will invite them to come to race, even if it’s just one race, and see how it is. I’m sure they would be tough competition, but they would have a hard time."
