DAMS rookie Kevin Joerg was fastest on the second day of the final GP3 pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The Swiss driver – who is also part of Renault's young driver programme – set his time in the afternoon session, after the morning was hit with heavy rain showers.
The morning session included a lack of running for a lot of drivers, with the quickest lap set by Charles Leclerc, a full twenty seconds off the pace of the afternoon's proceedings.
The session was punctuated by three red flag. Oscar Tunjo was first, with the Colombian spinning off at Turn 1. Later it was Nyck de Vries, who got stuck in the gravel at Turn 5, and Jake Hughes soon followed suit at the end of the session.
Despite a challenge from Alexander Albon, it was Leclerc who posted the fastest time of the session.
Joerg was second in the morning, followed by Konstantin Tereschenko, Alexander Albon, Jack Aitken, Nirei Fukuzumi, Santino Ferrucci, and Nyck de Vries. Two of the Jenzer cars of Akash Nandy and Richard Gonda rounded off the top 10.
The grey clouds lifted thereafter, and slicks became the way to go for most of the field. Ferrucci led as the session was half-done, but he was soon demoted by Richard Gonda and Oscar Tunjo.
Two of the DAMS cars then went about setting times under 1:36; first Joerg, then Hughes. They headed the timing sheets ahead of Antonio Fuoco, who was the only other driver to set a time in the 1:35s.
Behind him it was Alex Palou, Leclerc, Artur Janosz, Albon, Fukuzumi, Ralph Boschung, and Tunjo who made up the top ten.
The 2016 GP3 season gets under way on May 13, 14 and 15, supporting the Spanish Grand Prix.
