Kevin Magnussen says he is confident of scoring points under 'normal race' conditions following two grands prix in which he's had to fight his way through from the very back of the grid.
The Renault driver suffered a first-lap puncture at the Australian Grand Prix but despite that, he managed to finish 12th, just two places outside the points paying positions.
In Bahrain, Magnussen was hit with a penalty after he missed a call to enter the weighbridge during practice and was therefore forced to start the race from the pitlane. He went on to finish 11th.
"It is pretty frustrating! That’s how it is in racing sometimes, but we are very close so that does give motivation," said Magnussen.
The Dane believes points are on the horizon if he can qualify well and have a straight-forward race.
"I’m really excited and I really want to get those first points on the board. Give me a normal race with no puncture and no penalty and I think we can do that!
"Naturally I’m enjoying being back behind the wheel, pushing hard and overtaking, but you have so much work to do from the back that you can have a very strong race yet still finish in eleventh. If we start further up the order and don’t have a first lap incident good things can happen."
