Vettel hoping ‘Randy Mandy’ will improve pace

Sebastian Vettel will use a new chassis for the Turkish GP after Red Bull discovered damage on his previous one, ‘Luscious Liz’.

Vettel has a tradition of naming his cars and revealed in Istanbul that his new car will be christened ‘Randy Mandy’.

Vettel is hoping his new chassis will improve his pace which has failed to match that of fellow Red Bull driver Mark Webber in the previous two races which the Australian has won.

“It’s difficult to say [how much the damage cost in terms of pace],” Vettel said. “I think it explains a lot and, on top of that we found other things that weren’t in proper shape anymore.

“It doesn’t mean that we come here and everything is solved, we still have to work hard and try our best to be at the front again.”

Vettel is confident going into the seventh round of the championship, but isn’t ruling out a challenge from their competitors.

“If you look at the gaps, it’s not that we are massively clear,” said Vettel. “It’s three points to Fernando [Alonso] in the drivers [championship] so you never know what happens. In terms of performance we are looking strong, so that’s a good thing.

“So we should be in good shape for this weekend but I am not really a big fan of using words like unbeatable. Things change too quickly in Formula One.”
