Dragon Racing’s Jerome d’Ambrosio will start the inaugural Mexico City ePrix from pole position after finishing the final session in first place.

The Belgian progressed through to the Super Pole round alongside Nicolas Prost, Lucas di Grassi, Daniel Abt and Sebastien Buemi. He was fourth quickest after the four groups but put in a strong lap to finish first with a 1:03.705.

Buemi had dominated in practice and ended the first four qualifying groups in first place. However, a mistake early in his final lap put him out of contention and he could only manage fifth.

Prost was d’Ambrosio’s closest challenger three tenths back, beating the two ABT cars of di Grassi and Abt, who made it through to the Super Pole session for the first time.

Positions from sixth to 18 were decided by the times from the first four sessions, with Jean-Eric Vergne just missing out on a spot in the final Super Pole. Antonio Felix da Costa, Loic Duval, Nick Heidfeld and Stephane Sarrazin complete the top 10 on the grid.

Sam Bird was 11th quickest. Simona de Silvestro will start 12th, ahead of Andretti team-mate Robin Frijns, Mike Conway, Salvador Duran and Oliver Turvey.

Bruno Senna was 17th fastest after a spin and contact with the wall in his group, while Nelson Piquet Jr failed to put in a time after a dramatic crash at Turn 1 in the final session before the Super Pole, causing a red flag.
