F1’s tyre supplier Pirelli has confirmed the compound nominations for the Spanish Grand Prix, which takes place in May.

The hard, medium and soft tyres will be taken to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya by Pirelli for the fifth round of the 2016 season.

The 2016 regulations state nominations for fly-away F1 events have to be made 14 weeks in advance, compared to the eight-week deadline for races that take place in Europe.

One set of the orange-marked hard tyre and one set of the mediums must be used in the race and have been reserved by Pirelli, as has a set of the yellow soft compound for Q3.

Drivers must use at least one of the two reserved compounds during races and one set of the softest nominated tyre for the final part of qualifying, which will be returned after Q3.

Teams and drivers are then free to choose the 10 remaining tyre sets from the 13 allocated for each race.

Meanwhile Pirelli has recently announced the tyre allocations for the first round of the season, the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
