Reigning IndyCar champion Scott Dixon is looking to launch his title defence with victory at this weekend's season-opening race at St. Petersburg.
The Chip Ganassi Racing driver beat Team Penske’s Juan Pablo Montoya to his fourth championship crown last season, despite ending the campaign tied on 556 points with the Columbian.
After winning three races, one more than Montoya, the eventual tie-break went in favour of Dixon.
The Kiwi racer finished just 15th at last year's St. Petersburg round, but is hoping to carry his late 2015 form into this season's curtain raiser.
“I haven't won there, so I need to work on that one,” said Dixon. “I've had three or four podiums but have never won.”
Despite his lack of success at St. Petersburg, Dixon adores the event and has spoken highly of the action-packed racing usually created during the race weekend.
"St. Petersburg is one of the best places to kick off the season,” he added.
“The track itself is always fantastic racing with big braking zones going into Turn 1.
“It's also very wide, great for starts, restarts and overtaking throughout the race. I think it's definitely been some great racing over the years and this year I expect the same.”
