Sebastian Vettel set the pace for Ferrari on the second morning of Formula 1 pre-season testing in Barcelona as Pirelli's ultra-soft tyres made their first appearance.

As seen on the first day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Ferrari opted to focus on pace while Mercedes favoured mileage, with Nico Rosberg racking up over 80 laps in the Mercedes W07 en route to third place.

Daniel Ricciardo enjoyed a strong morning for Red Bull, leading at times and setting the first quick time on the ultra-soft tyre in the final hour before lunch.

However, Vettel went faster still when he followed suit on the ultra-softs, posting a time of 1:22.810 to finish seven-tenths of a second clear of Ricciardo at the top of the timesheets.

Sergio Perez finished fourth for Force India, while Marcus Ericsson showed signs of pace at Sauber to end the morning session fifth ahead of Valtteri Bottas in the Williams.

Pascal Wehrlein enjoyed a strong start to his second day of testing for Manor, finishing seventh after a stint on the soft tyre. The German was followed by Jolyon Palmer, who finished the morning eighth for Renault.

Esteban Gutierrez's first run for Haas proved to be a successful one as he racked up 29 laps. Sporting a reinforced front wing after Romain Grosjean's failure on Monday, the Mexican driver finished the morning session in ninth place, four seconds off Vettel's time.

Fernando Alonso finished 10th for McLaren, while Max Verstappen propped up the running order after an issue on his Toro Rosso caused him to stop out on track, bringing out the red flag. The Dutch driver managed to return to the track before the end of the morning running, but could not improve on 11th place.

The afternoon session begins at 1pm local time in Barcelona (12pm GMT).
